Meet GWII’s new Deputy President… Velene Peters

Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) is pleased to announce that Velene Peters, a GWII committee member, has assumed the position of GWII Deputy President for 2025.
Velene joined GWII as a member in 2022 and was elected to the committee in 2024. Stepping in as the new Deputy President, she tells us a little more about herself and how she came to join GWII.

Q. Can you provide a brief overview of your background and your journey in the insurance field?

R. I began my career in clothing retail, where I honed my skills in data analytics, strategy, and planning after qualifying as a fashion designer. This foundation helped me transition into the insurance industry, which is a significant part of my family’s legacy. At Charter Risk Underwriting Managers, I applied my analytical skills and formal insurance studies, which made my journey both challenging and rewarding as I blended creativity with analytical thinking.

Q. Do you have a personal motto or guiding principle that you follow?

R. I believe in servant leadership—prioritizing the needs of others creates a supportive environment where everyone can thrive. Family is central to my life, reminding me of the importance of commitment across all spheres. I strive to give back to my community and act with integrity and kindness in every interaction. Upholding honorable values in my decisions is vital, shaping my leadership style and the legacy I wish to leave.

Q. As Deputy President, what can members expect from GWII in the coming year, 2025?

R. Members can look forward to fantastic CPD-accredited webinars and in-person sessions. We’ll continue hosting social events like our Golf Masterclass and explore further opportunities within golf. Senior management can expect thought-provoking Leaderwalks, and we’ll introduce new opportunities for those aspiring to lead within their organizations.

R. I’m honored to serve as your Deputy President in 2025. I believe in creating opportunities for growth and excellence, lifting each other as we rise.
