As I reflect on the last decade of Gauteng Women in Insurance, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for all that we have achieved together. When I joined the committee in 2014, I was inspired by the vision of creating a supportive and empowering community for women in our industry. Little did I know that this organization would grow into such a powerful force.
In 2017, I had the honour of becoming the Chairlady, a role that allowed me to work closely with an incredible group of women dedicated to advancing the interests of women in insurance. Together, we navigated challenges, celebrated successes, and continuously sought to elevate the status and influence of women in our field.
Over the last ten years, Gauteng Women in Insurance has become more than just an industry body; it has become a sisterhood. We have hosted numerous events, workshops, and networking opportunities that have equipped our members with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to excel in their careers. Our initiatives have not only fostered professional growth but also created a platform where lasting friendships and mentorships have flourished.
As we continue to support one another, I am reminded of a quote that resonates deeply with our mission: “We need to lift each other up, not drag each other down. We need to celebrate each other’s successes and share each other's pain. We need to take one giant, collective fist to the glass ceiling. We can get there if we help each other through support, shared knowledge, mentorship, and love. Connect, not separate. We are women. We are not a group to bend and break and twist and turn. We are a force to be reckoned with.” (Facebook: Amy Poehler's Smart Girls). This embodies the spirit of Gauteng Women in Insurance - a collective force that supports, uplifts, and empowers.
None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our committee members. Your passion, dedication, and hard work have been the backbone of our success. I am deeply grateful to each of you for your contributions, your time, and your energy. Together, we have built something truly special.
To the women in the industry, thank you for being part of this journey. Your participation, enthusiasm, and commitment to our shared goals have driven us to achieve more than we ever imagined. You are the reason Gauteng Women in Insurance exists, and it is for you that we continue to strive for excellence.
A heartfelt thank you also goes to our sponsors. Your belief in our mission and your generous support have enabled us to bring our vision to life. Without your contributions, many of our initiatives would not have been possible. We appreciate your partnership and look forward to continuing our work together.
Even though I have since immigrated and now watch the progress of Gauteng Women in Insurance from a distance, I am incredibly proud of what I see. Through the internet, I stay connected and continue to witness the dynamic energy, passion, and commitment of the current committee, as well as those who served before. The excitement and drive that first drew me to this organization remain as vibrant as ever. I often find myself wishing that something like this could exist here in New Zealand, where women in insurance could come together in the same empowering way.
As we look ahead to the next decade, I am excited about the future of Gauteng Women in Insurance. We have laid a strong foundation, and I am confident that the organization will continue to grow and make an even greater impact. Let's continue to uplift, empower, and inspire one another as we forge ahead.
Here’s to the next ten years of breaking barriers, shattering glass ceilings, and paving the way for the next generation of women in insurance.
Thank you all for being a part of this incredible journey.
