GWII President’s reflections of 2025

The year 2025 ushered in a new chapter for Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) as Kyndra Robertson took the helm as President.

Now, with her term nearing its close, FAnews sat down with Kyndra to unpack the milestones, challenges, and lessons that have shaped her leadership - and to hear her vision.

A Q&A session

How would you describe 2025 for GWII in a few words?

A year of growth, connection, and empowerment. 2025 has been about strengthening our network, expanding our impact, and creating meaningful opportunities for women in the insurance industry to thrive both personally and professionally.

What key goals did you set out to achieve when you began your term, and how do you feel about the progress made?

When I stepped into this role, my vision was to continue building on GWII’s strong foundation by creating more opportunities for meaningful networking, mentorship, and professional development for women across the industry. I aimed to ensure inclusivity and foster a culture where every member feels seen, valued, and supported. Reflecting on this year, I feel proud of the progress we’ve made, our events and initiatives have reflected that the commitment, and the engagement from our members has been inspirational.

As President, what were the biggest challenges you encountered, and how did you navigate them?

One of the biggest challenges was balancing the many moving parts of GWII’s activities while also navigating the realities of a fast-changing insurance industry. Another was ensuring we maintained momentum in an environment where people’s time and energy are already stretched thin. I leaned heavily on the strength of the working committee, the passion of our members, and the power of collaboration. Together, we were able to turn these challenges into opportunities for creativity and innovation.

Which events, initiatives, or moments stand out to you as defining highlights of your presidency?

The Women’s Day celebration was certainly a defining moment - the biggest event we have held to date - and it showcased the depth of talent, power, and unity among women in our industry. Our CPD and networking events also stood out, as they created spaces for members to truly connect, share knowledge, and grow. The key highlights for me have been seeing how each initiative has impacted the GWII members in meaningful ways

How has leading GWII influenced you personally and professionally?

On a personal level, it’s deepened my appreciation for the strength and resilience of women in our industry. Professionally, it has sharpened my leadership skills, broadened my perspective, and reinforced the importance of empathy, collaboration, and inclusivity. It has truly been both an honour and a privilege to serve as this year’s president.

Looking ahead, what do you see as the biggest opportunities for GWII in the next year?

The year ahead offers an exciting opportunity to deepen GWII’s impact by fostering stronger intergenerational mentorship - creating spaces where both emerging and established leaders can share knowledge and experiences. We also have the chance to broaden our influence through new partnerships, collaborations, and innovative initiatives that will keep GWII at the forefront of empowering women in the insurance industry.

As you hand over the reins, what message or piece of advice would you like to leave with members and the incoming leadership team?

To our members: continue to show up for yourself and for each other. The strength of GWII lies in its community. To the incoming leadership team: lead with heart, remain open to innovation, and never lose sight of why GWII exists. We exist to empower, uplift, and create opportunities for women - and I believe the organisation will thrive and continue to grow for many years to come.

Kyndra also officially announced Velene Peters as the incoming President of GWII for 2026, with Easvarie Naidoo stepping in as Deputy President.

More on the 2026 committee will be featured in our January newsletter.
