Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) is pleased to announce that Michelle-Dee Coetzee, a GWII committee member, has assumed the position of GWII Deputy President for 2020.

Michelle has fulfilled various roles within the financial services industry to service our short-term insurance market. Q.  From your personal experience, why is Gauteng Women in Insurance a beneficial platform for our members and the industry?

A. GWII offers a platform to connect women, our industry and thought(ful) leadership practices together into a collective value proposition that fosters the spirit of inclusion and collaboration in order to best serve our members, other industry associations and the industry body as whole.

It’s been most rewarding to watch, learn and collaborate with some of our industry’s finest, brightest and most experienced ladies (and gentlemen) which only has been made possible through GWII. This continues to allow me the opportunity to carve out my own authentic career space and personal brand that I hope will continue the GWII legacy.

Q.  As Deputy President, tell us more about the GWII committee?

A. We are delighted to announce the addition of more ladies to our committee this coming year. They all bring a rich blend of experience, expertise and attitude to best present GWII and serve our association. Together with our incoming President and our long-serving committee members, we look forward to taking GWII to new heights. Our committee composition includes:

Q. What does GWII have in store for our members in 2020?

A. 2020 sees a jam-packed calendar with a world-class mix of leadership programmes, professional development sessions, personal networking initiatives, our classic motivational events, and fun mix ‘n mingle affairs. We aim to cater for everyone’s unique professional needs and personal tastes. 2020 will also the mark the first year that we host our flagship annual ladies’ conference. Watch this space!

Q.  What personal message do you have for our members as we embark on a new year?

A. Our last GWII women’s leadership programme hosted by The Networking Company taught me one thing - NOBODY is coming for you! These are hard-hitting words. You need to be your own hero in your story. So inspire yourself to live your best and mindful life yet. Your career will reflect that passion.

Surround yourself with people that demand the best from you. Never settle or stop growing, but create clear and healthy boundaries. You do not have to be all things to all people at all times. Leave this unrealistic expectation in the last decade. There is no such thing as multitasking if you want to give of your best.

The most sustainable way to build yourself up is to build up other women around you. And when you reach the top, send that elevator back down for others to join you. I encourage you to sign our GWII pledge to make a united impact!
