GWII Leaderwalk – Reimagine, Unlearn and Relearn

In collaboration with Business Engage and the 30% Club, Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) hosted a Leaderwalk on 14 June, with main sponsor Camargue Underwriting Managers, and co-sponsors Auto & General Insurance Company Ltd, Emerald Risk Transfer, Genasys Technologies (Pty) Ltd, Old Mutual Insure and SHA Risk Specialists.

Themed Reimagine, Unlearn and Relearn, guest speaker Zanele Njapha, the Unlearning Expert who is a 28-year-old Forbes Contributor, an award-winning speaker and a Career Transition Coach for ambitious corporate team members, shared practical insights on the key unlearning principles to help companies get excited about the new world of work.

Unlearn and relearn

Research shows that of the average human’s 60 000 thoughts, 90% of them are repetitive. Without awareness and intention, we are doomed to always ‘think’ and ‘do’ in the exact same way. Both as individuals and as teams living in a world of unprecedented change and opportunity.

Our capacity to let go of outdated ways of seeing, doing and being and then grab hold of new ones directly correlates to our ability to lead our teams into the future of the insurance industry.

Unlearning and relearning is a skill that individuals, teams and organisations as collectives can train themselves to apply by building the capacity to apply their thinking in new ways on a day to day basis.

Zanele’s approach to unlearning is made up of two steps: raising awareness and then challenging long-standing assumptions we’ve made by asking ourselves ‘what’s a different way to see or do what I’ve been seeing or doing?’
