Annelot Schrijver, GWII Founding Member and Past Chairlady, reflects on GWII’s decade of success

Ladies, Women, Gauteng Women in Insurance,

Ten years ago the time was right. A few of us met up with the intention of starting an organisation to promote the networking of women in the Gauteng insurance industry. First at a gathering arranged by Janine Smith (one of the founders) and subsequently four of us had drinks in The Baron on Main. Before we knew it we were introduced to Rianet and Michelle of FAnews and Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) was born!

Over the past ten years we have grown from strength to strength. Our membership base has grown and remains strong and there are some women that have attended our functions consistently from that first function we held at Emerald's offices in 2013. Our functions have grown in number of attendees and in frequency. We now organise not only speaker functions and our famous Year End Function, but LeaderWalks, CPD events, a golf day and celebrate Women's Day every year in conjunction with the IIG.

We survived and thrived during lockdown, which saw other organisations in the insurance industry crumble.

Our sponsors are loyal and generous and we couldn't have done everything we do without them. They deserve a big thank you.

It is now considered an honour to be the president of GWII and I was pleased to see that the employer of our current president posted something on LinkedIn recently saying how proud they are of her.

Finally I would like to say how proud I am personally of GWII and our ten year anniversary. To everyone involved over the past ten years, members, presidents, committee members, sponsors and the ladies at FAnews, well done! Here's to the next ten years! May we continue to support,  and make a difference in the lives of, women in the Gauteng insurance industry.
