A few simple techniques to deal with stress

Try practising emergency stress stoppers to help you manage stress effectively. Emergency stress stoppers include taking a few deep breaths, counting to 10 before responding or even walking away from a stressful situation, of course saying that you will handle it later.

You can also practise meditation or even say a small prayer if it helps you to relax. Remember that sometimes you may need to adopt different stress stoppers depending on the situation, whilst at other times it may help to combine them.

Never feel afraid to say sorry when you are wrong or make a mistake. It can help you to avoid a lot of stress!

Do things that make you feel good

Do things that make you feel good about yourself – this is a fabulous way to keep stress away. You do not have to spend a lot of money doing ‘fancy’ things. Rather look for the joy in doing simple things like visiting a friend who you haven’t seen in ages, colouring in a picture or even visiting your local park.

Remember that you do not have to spend hours doing a pleasurable activity, even 10-20 minutes will help make a difference.

Practice daily relaxation techniques

Practicing daily relaxation techniques will help you to calm the tension in your mind and body. Examples of relaxation techniques that can be practiced at home include yoga, tai chi and meditation. If you cannot find a suitable video to follow or are experiencing difficulty in following the process via a book, you can consider joining a group or class that may be offered in your area.

If you feel that you are unable to cope or manage stress effectively, chat to your local doctor for help.
